Kansas City Southern GP40 766 was parked at
WEST YARD
, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in September 1968 as Penn Central 3138 (EMD 34315) and was acquired by the KCS in October 1983, after its initial 15-year lease expired. KCS sent it to Morrison- Knudsen’s
BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP
in December 1993 as partial payment for remanufacturing 16 GP40’s into GP40M-2’s 4780-4795, and M-K remanufactured it into MARC GP40WH-2 number 57 in June 1994.
